Wide cuff watch straps coming soon!

So Violet bought me a new watch for my birthday, nothing special just something that I liked and tells time. The strap broke after a week! I was looking around the internet yesterday to find a solid looking strap, preferably a wide cuff type, but they were all twenty dollars! So I gave up and picked up a hook.

I have ventured into this project a while ago. In fact Debbie Stoller showed interest in the one I had posted on Craftster a few years ago she didn't choose it for her book, but it was exciting. Besides it was only a crocheted rectangle and the watch face was sewn onto it, there wasn't much to it.

Anyways, I took a few cue's from the leather made watch straps on the internet and crocheted a nice black acrylic watch strap. I really like it! I does seem to stretch out so I'll have to solve that problem, but that shouldn't prove to be that hard. This design allows for a lot of customization, I can add things like appliqués, narrower strap, single straps, and maybe button clasps for the strap and the watch face, not to mention all the color's. Once I figure out how to stop the stretch this will definitely be added to my Etsy shop Pirate Crochet.

Captain Hooks

Just a quick news flash from the Captain, Pirate Crochet will soon be selling pirate themed crochet hooks, mostly "I" hooks since it is seemingly the most common, they will be made of wood, hand painted, with some possible polymer clay.

I've posted these over at my Etsy Shop - Pirate Crochet but here's a list of new things that I have finished.
This is what I am calling the Classic Pirate, since to me it brings to mind images of pirates wearing those red and white striped bandanna's.










I like to call this one blood flow, because at some point a pirate is going to get a sword in the skull and the blood will flow.









The crosshatch puff stitches are the crossed bones of fallen brothers of the pirate brotherhood.

Lidsville help

I thought I post a blog about the Lidsville hat about some of the assembly directions. Some are having problems and I totally realize that it is awkwardly worded. Basically you just slip stitch all the sides of each piece together. So if you put all the "Back" pieces together in a row slip stitch each touching side. Those pieces crochet together will pinch the top so that it folds over. The "Top" piece will be slip stitched to the "Back" pieces from the ninth row of one "Back" piece to the ninth row of the other "Back" piece on the other side, slip stitching evenly across counting the four tips of the back piece as one stitch. The "Side" pieces will be slip stitched to the "Back" piece and "Top" piece. With the angled edge facing the "Top" piece slip stitch the "Side" on starting from the first row of one of the "Back" pieces continuing down the edges of the "Top" and "Side" piece to the end. Finally the really weird part, the brim, if you are just using plastic canvas follow Brim A if you are using a rounded hard plastic piece from a hat follow Brim B.

BRIM A)
The Brim is slip stitched on to the "Top" piece and along the bottom edges of the "Side" pieces. You will be slip stitching along the front of the brim. Turn the unfinished hat inside out and starting at about half of the "Side" piece slip stitch the Brim along the bottom edge of the "Side" piece and continue along the edge of the "Top" piece then continue along the edge of the "Side" piece until you reach the end of the brim. This will keep your slip stitches hidden.

BRIM B)
You will basically be doing the same work just make sure you hold the brim so it curves away from you not towards you, so the brim is right-side up when you turn it right-side out.

then you might want to do a single crochet around the bottom of the "Back" piece and the "Side" pieces and slip stitching along the inside curve of the brim.

Yeah my grrlfriend saw an angel! I don't know about that. I like it I suppose. I really like the scarf grenade or not! This is actually the first scarf I've ever made for myself and only the fourth scarf I've ever made.

The Pirate and his crochet

I've had this up on my Etsy shop Pirate Crochet for a few weeks, so I thought I better add it to my blog!



I am calling this one the Pirate; it's the first of the product line so it gets the signature name. It's based off all those really popular hats you see all the young skater kids wearing, a beanie with a visor! But these have extra coolness points cause I hand made them, and they're crocheted! Also these are made out of a nice wool yarn instead of acrylic yarn. I am going to make a few more and add them to my Etsy shop, hopefully they'll catch on. Along with that I have also come up with a few other crochet hat ideas that I am currently working on. Next time your head is a freezin' think of me and I'll hook you up with something awesome.

If anyone knows how to do this I would love to hear from you about how to do it. I would like to know how to use the crochet crosshatch stitch pattern in the round. I can only find the stitch pattern that is worked flat, I'm sure you must be able to do it. I've tried millions of times and nothing I try to do works out. So if anyone out there knows how to do it please hit me up with a link or pattern or even a book.

I thought I would update everyone with what I am trying to do with my crochet as of late. I have drawn up a few plans for some cool beanies to be sold on my Etsy shop. I have gotten one design from paper to yarn to hat already, the one I believed to be the hardest which it was I had to rip that thing out so many times before I finally got something that would be perfect. So now it's on to the others, they should be a lot easier but still very cool and something that hopefully hasn't really been seen before on a crocheted hat. I'm trying to be unique but not so much I come up with something unwearable. These hats are going to be made with some great wool yarns and colors. That is the plan, I'm at square one, and I'm moving forward, hopefully there will be a giant X at the end.

Slipper's Update

So they came out a little too large. Well the second one came out a little large, I was having some problems because I missed a stitch somewhere I tried to fix it without ripping it back all the way but apparently to no avail. So I'm going to rip both out and start from the beginning because the first one was a little loose for my comfort as well. bleh. i think i might also add a second sole to make it a little thicker and stronger.

"Gingerbread" House!!!!!

ummm....it's made out of cinnamon graham crackers!!! it fuckin rocks. and now here from my brain to your eyes the kick ass graham cracker house.

Kellen has a Slipper

I found this pattern a while ago (click here) but it's was a little too small and a little wrong so i got frustrated and gave up. Then a few days ago i learned how to do something that was need to make the slippers so i looked it up again and started working on it last night and fixed all the errors and added a size. I really like these i have to finish the other one.

Motorcycle Jacket!!

well at long last i finally finished this after working for weeks to work out my own pattern from complete scratch and then just working it up and then having to get more yarn to finish it. i'm pretty happy with this. it's bulky but so are real ones so i'm cool. it's not completely finished i still have to completely reinforce the main zipper and add some more snaps(have to get more) to the lapels to hold them in place and make them look better. also i will be adding a belt to the bottom to make it more accurate to a real jacket it will be crocheted as well as will the belt loops of course.

MISFITS!!

so i've had this sweater that i stenciled the crimson ghost on the back for awhile and recently i decided that it needed to be a zip up! so i went for it i cut up the front and "sewed" in a black zipper. i wanted a pink one but i couldn't find one, but i guess i could always change it if i wanted. also i thought this had to have the word Misfits on the front so i did that as well. here it is.

Ribbit!!

a lady at work asked me if i could make a frog toilet paper cover a while ago well i kind of didn't have any inspiration to make one but i told her i could do it easy so after a couple weeks of some serious procrastination she tells me that her mom wants one and now another lady wants one, so after work that day which was yesterday i buckled down and made my first one.

can you tell it's a frog other than the tongue and fly on it?

well i finally did it!! i just couldn't get it i don't know what i was doing. even this time i still had to fix numerous mistakes but i finally did it!! maybe it was because i didn't use two strands of yarn or cotton for that matter or the right hook who knows. but i got it done. i'm not really into cowboy hats or anything, but i know i can use this pattern to make a pretty good fedora which is pretty close to this i just need to make the brim a little smaller which i should have just done but oh well. i need to make this for one of my friends who has a country boy side and would wear a cowboy hat kind of like this. anyway here is it.
